Default oil dipstick

on the dipstick, there are two markings, one toward the end, the other near the top, correct me if I'm wrong ,the lower marking is add oil? AND where is the oil drained from? Recently aquired a sportster!

Yes. The lower mark is the add oil line and the top mark is the "Don't go over" line which should be about one quart between the two marks. You don't mention what year your Sportster is, but I will assume it is at least an Evo Sportster. There is an oil drain rubber hose that is located under the frame towards the rear tire that is secured by a rubber hose type clamp to the frame itself. Undo the hose clamp and have a container available that will catch the oil that will come out after you remove the oil hose from the frame. (About three quarts) You should obtain a service manual for your year Sportster. It will be a great help to you with service maintenance and trouble shooting tips and it will answer a lot of your questions about your year bike.
