One dealer say's 3.5 quarts and another said 4.0. I'm changing filter also.

The manual states 3.5 qts. Thats what I put in my Ultra, then check the level. Add if indicated, then ride until warm and check again. As long as the level is between the "add quart" mark and "full" mark, your good to go. The actual amount will depend on how thouroughly the crank case is drained. 3.5 qts is a good place to start.

I've always done 4 qts. and a filter. Puts the level right wehere it needs to be on mine.

Don't trust the service manual! Look at the owners manual, Our Harley service manual for our 2000 dyna gives a oil amount of 2.5 qts. and the owners manual says 3 qts. at 2.5 it sits right on the add 1 qt. line. It really takes about 3.5 with a filter to get it to the correct level on the stick.
