Nope don't do it you'll find most on here don't run the SE Harley oil in the Tranny it's a no no. Use a gear oil in the tranny like Redline Heavy Shockproof or Mobile 75w-90 in your tranny and a good 20w50 like Mobile 1 V-Twin 20w-50 in your primary also. Or some other good oil. Overall I would not use the SE oil in my bike again just read some of the oil threads for more info there's lots to read. You could spend days just reading about oil Good luck and I'm sure other's well let you in on more info soon.
Harley says you can use the SYN3 in all three holes. Engine, Trans, and Primary. However, You will get better results useing a good gear oil such as AMSOIL SVG 75W90 in the transmission. Gear oils have EP (Extreme Pressure) additives that will noticeable reduce the Harley Clunk after about 500 to 1000 miles.
There are far better Synthetic Oils than SYN3. AMSOIL MCV 20W50, MABIL 1 V TWIN, REDLINE. They are all good oils so it is a matter of choice. I tried the SYN3 and didn't like, in fact I don't know anyone that likes it. I switched to AMSOIL MCV and the difference was noticeable. AMSOIL happens to be my preference but all the other oils mentioned are better than SYN3. Good Luck
jtfrog, I hope you see a trend. Most of us synthetic of one kind or another, but Very few use Syn 3 Harley oil. It's on the high price side and only if any, slightly better than dino oil.
Try the local metric bike dealer, auto parts store, you can even buy it online. I am an Amsoil dealer and I will tell ya straight up.....buy whatever you feel like is a reasonably priced oil, that is easy to get your hands on when you need it. Be it Mobil 1, Redline, Belray, or even Amsoil.....
All the oils have been changed. I went to the only two metric shops in town and the only oil there that was synthetic was this stuff called
Muto I believe. When after talking to the guy who seemed knowledgeable talk with me so I tried it. The clunk in the transmission is gone. Ever herd of this oil. Will the synthetic gear oils at the local auto work in the primary and tranny?
