A nice strip of oil around the foundation helps with the weed eating (dead grass) and keeps he bugs back. So I have been told.

Good question...I notice that you have your email available in your profile which means he can track your ISP address and ultimately find out where you live, thereby finding you in violation for pouring it around your foundation I read on here that if a place sells oil, then by law they have to take old oil to dispose...don't know how true that is or not. I bring mine to work with me and go next door to the fire department and dump it in their mechanic's 55 gallon drum that gets sent back with old oil.

Most auto repair shops and stores will take your old oil. I save mine up and carry it in at one time. I do my own cars too because I use syn in everything.

My city also has an annual hazardous waste collection day for paints-oils-bartteries etc that works out well, just drive through this maze of people, they unload everything for you and you're on your way, like a drive thru.

I usually take mine to Autozone or Advance. Never a question, beats contaminating the ground water!

We are in the hazardous waste business, and we are often asked about this exact thing. Our community here has a 'hazardous waste day' offered by the city once a year. You can bring in your small quanities of household wastes for disposal (Paint, oil, solvents etc.) for no fee. There is no obligation that anyone in the oil service industry has to collect used oil, but it is sometimes offered as a complimentary service. I believe they stopped doing that a little while ago around these parts...too much of a pain in the butt, plus there is an added cost for disposal.

It is a very serious offense to spill (accidentally on purpose) or pour any amount of waste oil on the ground. It is considered a contaminant and should be handled properly. Same goes for old gas, deisel fuel, paint etc.
