Why do a lot of people recommend the heavy ShockProof when the superlight (75W90) is still heavier than the Formula+ (50wt from what I read)?
Hmmm, I don't know of anyone that runs Shockproof in their primary. I do, however, run Shockproof in my gearbox....works great. Btw, I just run basic 10w-40 Castrol oil in the primary.
To answer your question , the shock proof is not at all thick it just protects as good as something thick. It is the best for the trans as far as I'm concerned.
Got it. About an hour after I made this post, I saw another thread that explained the differences in the gear oil/engine oil weights. Learn something every day.... including oil migration (something to watch for I guess).
Bought a used Harley Heritage Softail. The previous user used Syn 3. Would it hurt to change to Mobile 1 Synthetic? I have heard some people say that you should stick with the same oil, changing can cause problems? Opinions? I usually stay with the same oil, but Mobile 1 is easier to get where I live.

Mine had dino oil in it for god knows how long....I put in a premium synthetic it's going through it's 2nd full year before I loosen a derby cover bolt. Thats confidence.....and mebbe a smidgeon of laziness.
Either i have missed a post or im the first to ask about it, but has anybody used amsoils primary and trans oils yet? Ive always uses 20w50 in all 3 holes. Wondering if its worth the money to make a switch.
Jcook77...I use Amsoil 20/50 in the engine, amsoil primary Oil in the primary and Amsoil trans fluid in the trany on my 2018 Glide and wifes 2013 Slim.....Seems to work just fine even in the Florida heat....I may try Redline primary in her bike as it cable clutch and finding nuteral in the summer can be trying for her...Others say Belray in primary???
