Default NHTSA PA Recall 22V030000

NHTSA issued a safety recall for the blank screen in low temps. Hopefully H-D will use this software fix to correct some of the other issues.Manufacturer Harley-Davidson Motor Company

Components ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Number of Units Affected 3,917

Summary

Harley Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain 2021 Pan America 1250S (RA1250S), Pan America 1250 (RA1250), and Sportster S (RH1250S) motorcycles. The instrument cluster module may not display the speedometer and neutral indicator at start-up when the module is below freezing temperatures. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 123, "Motorcycle Controls and Displays."

Remedy

Dealers will update the instrument cluster module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 8, 2022. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0631.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Interesting ! I've had a lot of starting problems at freezing temps here. Not what they describe though. Sometimes nothing at all. Sometimes a difficult start and no MODES. Only in cold weather. I'm seeing my dealer Thursday so I'll bring this up. To his credit, he rang me up to see how the bike was behaving since the last updates.

It does not seem to be on the Harley davidson Site yet. I have this issue so it is nice to see ther eis a fix for it.

It now shows up on the APP and if you go to recalls on the Harley Davidson web site

Yepp, I needed 5 min to get it running. warming up the engine for a while is warmin up the dsplay. So, It took me finally 15 min and 5 starts to get the display working.

I think it was cold enough...

Recall showed up on my Harley App. Bike above looks like it needs to warm up, not cool down.

Dealer updated my FW today it made things worse on my bike. Could not get to diagnostics screen, bike did not want to start well at all, the modes did not want to come up right on the bike.
I have a call into Harley and the dealer is going to call as well. I smart enough to take the old FW with me, reinstalled that and the diagnostics works right, the modes come up right and the bike started like it had been before the new software. If someone else has had the update done it would be great to hear if it worked for them. As a note my bike is current on all the updates available.

Sorry to hear u having troubles still. Got mine done today and everything seems fine. I wasn’t having any issues previously except for some funky hard starts a while back. The new update does in fact enlarge the fonts on the screen.

Took mine in yesterday, tech is having problems getting the file to unzip. They think it's due to his faulty usb-c flash drive, he has to get another one and try again this afternoon. any help?
