When I looked at the bike (three occasions) I was thorough. I knew the bike had been chromed out and dismissed errors because I wanted the bike. I figured its an honest bike thats had the typical things done to it in period. Its much better than the 66 I bought as far as being correct goes.

The guy I bought it from owned it 2 years and never rode it. Before that it sat for 25 years in a garage. The guy I bought it from moved the regulator from the left saddle bag to the coil bracket not knowing it belonged on the other side. it was converted to 12V before he bought it. He had some electrical work done, rebuilt the linkert and ran it on a bottle of gas gravity fed to the carb. He didn't want to put fuel in it because he never planned to ride it, just wanted it as an investment and debated putting it in his living room.

So the chrome primary should be black and no crunch mark near the shifter. Buddy seat came with it plus an extra front brake drum, a windshield and some other minor odds and ends. Spot lights are wrong. Headlight high, low and off switch is on the left bar. Right bar has 3 holes for an additional switch like my 66 where the starter button would be so I assumed the bars had been changed.

Coils are wrong I guess. 12V must be different than 6 so Im hoping they fit behind the correct coil cover.

Buddy seat came with the helper spring and hook that holds it to the fender if its not needed.

What puzzled me the most is how elaborate the regulator mount is. Is any of that mount factory?

you will have to split the cases to fix the timing plug they tapped it in place with pipe thread over the 5/8 X18 - weld drill and re do in the correct thread

the British coil has to go as well

Have to say I've never seen a voltage regulator mount like that.

However.......after looking at my factory parts manual (1958 to 1968) what you have is a factory part #74500-58A Current and Voltage Regulator w/ fittings (standard generator - 58-64).

There is another part number for those listed as used with radio modles. Don't know the difference though. Don't know why this style in lieu of the standard type seen on most pre-65 Pans.

I've only seen the standard Bosh generator with the right side mount until you posted yours. Definitely a bit unique and worth running it (my opinion only just cuz I think it funky but cool). Think I have and OEM black painted cover. I'll try and dig it out for you so you can get rid of the chrome one if you want.

I won’t say no to a black cover!

Ill have to look in my book but ive found the 61-71 book I have doesn’t show everything. I saw a book that goes from 58-68 listing Duo glide on the cover so I’ll have to get one of those.

The regulator mount did look like something OEM, definitely not home made. I would like to figure that out.

Thanks Dave!

So the HD museum called me back just now and told me the order roster says the bike was built August 18 1961 and it says FL on the roster not FLF for foot shift. He said the bike would've been a hand shift bike when new!

That's gorgeous!!

I had a 58 that got stolen 30 years ago from a buddies garage while we were on an HD basket's run in Mexico. Loved that bike, it was the first HD I bought at 17 years old. Fullerton HD had 6 of them fresh from the auction, started every one of them and chose the quietest engine...$2,700.00 out the door, about a month before she was stolen.

That would've really sucked! Why didn't you get another one back then?
