pre war all the frames were jigged then furnaced to temp and flowed with brass to assemble the joints - then a cooling process before removal from the jig
the furnace assembly changed with the advent of jig welding post war with the frames but they never went away from that
today a furnace is not used in the aftermarket repair shops, but pre heating and welding is preferred in the repairs that are being made to return original pieces back to the correct state

Use a matt finish for powder coating
The shininess identifies it as powder coated, I have just powder coated my 62 Duo-Glide fame with "Satin Black", it looks fantastic and close enough to new.
