65 FLH Build Thread
What sucks is that I have a couple other pics with the shifter fork tool but it blocks this out so now I am not sure if I bent that tab or overlooked it somehow during reassembly. I distincty remember moving and rotating the gears thru the shift assembly. I am thinking it might be just the angle of the pic I took that makes it appear as tho there might be a clearance issue. Just don't know. Damn
Lots of teardown if I cannot determine for sure. REALLY STUPID mistake on part if I did not.

Finisihed up the left saddlebag (sans spring clips).
There are a couple different types of seals used on the lids themselves. At least one type there was a piece of rubber or vinyl that went on the top of the bags where the lid attaches. These were then stapled in place. At some point (not sure if started with Shovel of Pan models) it was changed to a foam pad that attached to the inside of the lids. My saddlebags still had thge staple holes in them I had them filled before being refinished and opted for the foam strips. No way in Hell I am going to staple the bags.
Another set of bags I have used the foam strips. Found the foam pads thru V-Twin SA little bit different than the OEM, but not bad. Its 3M foam tape that is stickey on two sides. The OEM is on the right. Foam pad in place. They give you enough so that you will have a couple of inches left over.
Lastly, there are for sure at least two different keys used for these locks...a #42 key and a #43 key. The locking mechanism on these bags use the #43 key. The other locks I have look identical but take the #42 key.

Disassmbling the parts tro redo chrome and cad plating was not an option (for me at least). The inside components...
Locked and unlocked positions
Gonna dig out a pic of the locks on my 84 FLH. Makes one really appreciate how HD simplied the mechanism on later bikes.
