Default Rear Wheel Lifts

I have a good problem to be fortunate to have but still need to do something. As you can see from my profile I currently have 5 bikes in my 2 car garage. If I could "store" the bikes in vertical condition I believe they will take up much less room leaving more room to work on whichever one needs help or, god forbid, another bike. I have a regular motorcycle jack however, it as most do sticks out the side a considerable amount. I would prefer not to anchor a front chock into the floor because that limits ability to move around garage if I take all the bikes out. I do plan to get a drive on lift in the near future to use during cleaning and maintenance. What have others done to store the bikes as closely as possible, which I believe is in the vertical position?

you can make a good jack out of 2x8s and pipe. I don't have the link any more but it's out there.

I have a Condor Pit/Trailer Stop wheel chock. I do not bolt it down, just move it around the basement for what ever bike I need to work on. I do bolt it into my truck when transporting bikes. Every bike in my Sig has been on it, keeps them vertical, 100% safe, bike is not going anywhere. If you had a couple lined up against the wall, you could get them in tighter then if on the jiffy stands.

Is your garage tall enough for a car lift? A drive on lift can hold 3-4 bikes side by side and get them high enough to walk under or park under.

Let`s be serious here, the answer is that you need more space, not a way to cram more stuff into an already overcrowded space.

Other than that, I think Architect has the best solution.

Forget about building supports from wood, the stuff would weigh a ton and be a pain to move around, and take up too much space.

When I first read vertical storage, I thought of the Chevy Vega...

The Condor stuff is great. I use a couple of their dollys to move the bikes around for room to work on them. I also got a couple of chocks from Cycle Gear that were on sale, and they work pretty well. Did not give me a huge amount of space, but it's better. One thing to consider with the chocks is the handlebars will be perpendicular to the the bike, where as when the bike is on the stand, the bars take up less room. I have bumped my mirrors more than a few times. I have a few bikes in a 2 car garage along with a whole bunch of other stuff too. Like walking in a Habitrail sometimes.

The Condor is worth every penny. They're not cheap, but they are 100% the best you can get.

True story. I haul my racebike on a flatbed with a condor. I use a bar harness with not much tension on the straps. I went around a freeway ramp that is S shaped and pressure came off the right side. That strap strap lost tension and it came unhooked just from gravity. As I made the second turn of the S, the bike was now trying to lean left, away from the now dangling strap, and the left side strap came loose too. After I got on the freeway and out of traffic danger I stopped to put the straps back on. Bike never came out of the stand. Now when I strap it, I have the hooks facing down so they don't fall out.
