Changing the generator over to one that looks like a generator but it's a permanent magnet alternator. I'll mount the regulator on the bottom of the skid plate so its less obvious but still in the wind. I'm glad I decided to do this because the roll pin that retains the gear is working its way out and I can only imagine when the drive gear falls off and bounces around inside the gear case what carnage I would be dealing with. The new one has a threaded shaft with a nut retaining the gear.
Not sure if thats the regulator John has problems with but I didn't want to go through the exercise of rebuilding an old OEM unit when this will look the part.
$10 cover from the Bay, spent 5 minutes re-tapping to use stock screws (it comes metric), never know it was electronic. Never had a problem with it (except one I caused).
