Max did you ever figure out the oil system as to why the primary fills up?????? I have a '66 Shovelhead and it does the same thing.
Nope. Does yours do it riding or sitting? If it's done while riding, it's likely an air leak in the primary. If while sitting, would suspect, the check ball in the pump. Oil can still leak through the pump while sitting. Your pump is the same as a Panhead and it don't have a seal between the feed and scavenge pump. Oil leaks from feed to scavenge and fills the motor. Also the crankcase didn't have an oil seal on the crank until 70. It can trickle oil into the primary if the crankcase fills up..
Mine does it sitting. It leaks down into the engine then spills into the primary and leaks onto the floor. I took the check ball out and didn't see any thing out of order in there.
Hi compression loss is also in play - its been sitting for years - rust has found its way into the cylinder walls - or its just a hi mileage engine with worn rings ect ect
install a PCV on the vent hose close to the block and run the other side of the PCV up and over the oil tank with the vent and return and back down face it to the chain - and let it lube it see what that does after 200 miles in 40 to 50 miles a trip at no more then 50MPH
