I really appreciate the help guys. I found the problem. Turns out the voltage regulator was shorting out against its cover. Its a 12v system. Probably should've mentioned that from the get go. Ordered a new Accel reg. Should be in Monday. Will post with results.
it's been 30 yrs but when i had my 59 panhead i remember having to take apart & clean the inside of the generator after sitting all winter on the coast & had to re polarize the generator after doing any electrical work & if I didn't do it right it would do what you're describing sorry i don't remember how to do it something about sparking one of the post on the generator?
