Default Cerakote high temp paint

Im strongly considering buying some of this to re-paint my heat shields and possibly my entire exhaust and was hoping to hear from anyone that’s done it. There is a kit on Amazon right now that comes with a 16 oz. bottle, spray gun , training video and some other stuff for around 170 bucks…if anyone has tried it please let me know your thoughts.

I paid a shop once to do some shields for me, and they came out fine but it was pretty pricey so I’d like to be able to do it myself.

I had a thread on here a few years ago about a different high temp paint (it was a rattle can type) and a forum member raved about Cerakote, but I looked him up and he hasn’t logged in to the forum in over a year.

I hadn't thought about using it on an exhaust, but I've been doing some research lately about using the air-dry Ceracote on suppressors (the pew pew kind). Cerakote has a very good reputation and from what I can tell the air-dry version is holding up very well in that application which gets very very hot when used a lot very quickly. I don't have any good reason it wouldn't work.

I've used things like VHT before to paint engine guards. It held up to the heat ok, but painting on top of chrome is asking for it to scratch off, which is exactly what it did for me.

I've done the headers on my car with it and it's held up incredibly well. You just need to follow directions to a T

I actually went ahead and bought the Cerakote kit. I also went ahead and bought a blasting cabinet so I could prep the shields per Cerakote’s instructions. Yes, it would’ve been cheaper to pay someone else to do it lol, but I’m actually glad I invested in the cabinet because I’ve been wanting one for years. Anyway, I started sandblasting a couple weeks ago when I had time. I’m waiting for the weather to turn nice and stay that way before I try to paint them. I will update this thread when I’m done (or start a new one). In the meantime, a couple pics …

The little cyclone deal here works great, it really keeps the dust down !

I know it’s been a minute, but I finally got my heat shields sprayed the other day. The conditions sucked, it was windy and hot as a **** and I couldn’t keep the bugs off. Oh well, one of these days I’ll have a garage…anyway, they didn’t come
out half bad, all things considered (I haven’t painted with a gun since my auto body class in high school). The paint is a little flatter than i was hoping for, I expected a bit more gloss to
it (it’s supposed to be a “satin” or semi-gloss finish) and I laid it on pretty thick. It takes 5 days to fully cure, so I can’t mount the shields until Monday at the earliest. There is plenty of paint left over, so if it doesn’t hold up I will redo it all when the weather starts getting a little cooler and the bugs aren’t so bad, and I will probably paint the header and slip ons when I do.
