Default Need info on what paint to buy please...

I just found out a good friend of mine has an HVLP sprayer! WooHoo! He is going to paint my new bags for me, but I need top buy the paint. The PPG paint code for Vivid Black is 9850. Is this what I need to paint them? Also, what kind of clear coat and hardener do I need? I will sand them smooth, 2 coats of primer, a few coats of black and a few coats of clear. He has not painted bike parts before but paints houses for a living. I know, a big difference. What is the proper method, how many coats, what brand of paint, primer and clear should I use? Also hardener? thanks!

I am kind of in the same position as your buddy. I had never painted a bike before but own a custom cabinet shop where I spray catalyzed lacquer everyday so I knew I could do it and had the right equipment. I went to my local paint supply store and they set me up with a dupont system that worked out perfect

Nason 421-19, 2k urethane primer
Nason 483-87, 2k urethane primer activator

Dupont Chromabase: Paint code 809129 K, harley davidson vivid black, they reduced it for me or you can buy the reducer

Dupont Chromabase Snap dry clear, HC-7776S
Dupont Chromabase activator 7765S

I scuffed everything with 400 grit, sprayed 2 light coats of primer and then sanded with 400. Sprayed 2-3 light color coats, just spray enough for color coverage. Switched to clear and shot 1 light coat and 1 medium coat. I let that dry overnight and then sanded out any imperfections with 600 grit and then shot it one last medium coat. Let that dry 3 days and then wet sanded with 2000 and polished. Deep orange peel free shine. Looked better than the stock parts I was trying to match

Thanks. How much will it run for all paint and stuff? Just trying to work out my budget.

I think a quart of base and clear with the reducer and hardners from my local PPG place was around 270 or so. Maybe a little less I picked up a couple new buffing pads at the same time I think. I also had the adhesion promotor for plastic in there and I think it was around 60 or so. I would say you should be around 200 bones or so just for base and clear. The base will last a long time. A quart of base mixes 1-1 with reducer so you are really getting half a gallon. The clear on the other hand is a 4-1 mix with the hardner so you will use it up fairly fast. All of this was with PPG paint so I cannot account for Dupont. Good luck
