So im not a big fan of my sportster. Mainly the color of the engine and other components under the seat & tank. I was thinking about going black. I dont really want to spend much and was looking for suggestions on doing this myself. The silver I personally think is really ugly and dull.
I was wondering if it is possible to spray paint with a rubber or powder coat like finish directly on the bike. I would also like to avoid removing as much parts as I can.
the main issue your going to run into is prep man... but it can be done. there is a fella on the dyna side of the forum that did his motor if you do a few searches i am sure it will come up.
if you re going to shoot in your frame. foil is your best friend. i would wrap the whole thing up, then mask with tape. personally i would use:
1. Gunk engine cleaner
2. non clorinated brake cleaner use a few few cans
3. denature alche
4. prep
5. tack cloth
6. light coat primer
7. few light coats paint
i have painted about 9 motors now, 7 of them out of the frame... i use dupi color, satin black the most.. i like to shoot the motor with the cases on then remove them and coat the cases
on this one we shot the motor in the frame. but then later did the frame with the motor in it still
