Default 2001 Electra Glide Classic Injected Resurrection...

Here is my '01 project that I purchased from Crashed Toys for $1500. Just by looking at what I started with that I had a lot of anxiety about purchasing the bike, but the staff at Crashed Toys were always so helpful and willing to answer any question that I had during my several time inspecting the bike before I finally decide to layout the cash on the bike. All of my friends advised me to purchased a "good" used running bike for $5 - $8K I was never going to entertain that, because I told them that spending that kind of money on a running used bike I could spend less money on this bike and end up with the way that I envisioned it to look for way less money.

The beginning:

The tear down:
Took out the sawsall and go to work cutting the engine and transmission out of the damaged frame. I know that the frame was bent from Crashed Toys great inspection and picture in their post. I was open that I was only going to need to replace the uprights, but needles to say the frame was just junk. I must say... Harley-Davidson designed the FLHT frames well, so that it will absorb all of the impact and not allow damage to the engine.

I knew that the transmission had a broken mounting tab but it wasn't until I got the engine out of the frame before I realized that ALL of the mounting tabs were broken and cracked. Needless to say that noooooobody wanting to touch that welding job with a mile long pole, so $350 was shelled out for a used low mileage unit from Ebay.

Replacement frame is in and and now it's time to get down to work. Thanks to a High Side Cycles for understanding what I was doing and giving me such a great price on the frame.

Now the fun part begins. Got my oldest boy to help out rebuilding the bike.

It lives again. Starting to look like a bike again. Got the hammer and dolly and beat out the dented tank. Looks waaaay better than it did when I bought the bike.

Got the 11 degree Arlen Ness KO kit. Or at least the Ebay version of it. There is a huge difference in the front wheel spacing before and after. Love the stance now.

Finally off of the cinder block and back on its own 2 feet. Now I just need to get a new 21 incher up front.

This is my vision on what the final version of what the bike will look like when I get the thumbs up from the inspector. Mine will have black and polished accents and billet spoke wheels.

That was one wasted bike, looks like a lot of work. Look forward to seeing your finished bike.

Thanks xcbullet. We're only 3 months in on the rebuild, with the exception to the forks, transmission, fairing and the frame everything else was reused from the original bike. I must say that a bench vise is a must have for any shop. Used it and my hammer and dolly set to straighten a lot of the original accessories from the original bike.

My thinking was that I couldn't even buy a low mileage Harley-Davidson 88in motor for the price that i paid for the whole bike. This bike only has 20K actual miles on it.

Impressive work. Especially on that tank. I thought that was a goner for sure. Looking forward to the other chapters.

Finally getting to the end of the build. Just got the approval for the inspection service, so that I can apply for the rebuilt title.
I did all of the paint work myself and now it's time to move onto the stereo system. For you guys that have installed sound systems in your Electra Glides, what's the largest amp that you were able to install in the fairing using an aftermarket amp?

Yes I know it's an old thread, but I'm curious as to what the result became after all that work on the bike.

I'll upload some recent pictures after I remake my bag lids. Left it out in the rain and the mdf speaker rings started swelling and splitting. Gonna have to use some type of plastic product this time.

For some ungodly reason I can't get the bike started after letting it sit up for the winter. I've even sprayed starter fluid directly into the throttle botty and it won't fire at all.
