There's been a few people that I've read doing that. It can def be done. If you take you time, and focus on the prep it will come out mint. I did the nacelle, and covers on my bike. I will recommend finding a two stage clear coat. The normal clear never fully hardens.
you can shoot them in dupli color and use a 2k clear, it is a 2 stage paint in a can. works awesome and has a self level in it so makes wet sanding and polishing easier... i highly suggest you soak your black rattle can in hot water 10 min before shooting it will help it atomize smoother and flow out much better
