Default Saddle Bag Scratch

I've got a scratch on one of my saddlebags, well, it's a bit bigger than a scratch, maybe about 1/32 inch deep by an inch and a half. It will have to be filled. Good news is my bikes an Ultra Limited with the two tone colors, but only the gray is scratched.

Has anyone had experience of filling and painting the bags? I'm not sure what the material is they're made of and what filler/kit will work. Any help would be appreciated.

Does not sound like a good do it yourself project. Inquire at a body shop about spot painting the damage and having the entire bag clear coated for a good buffer coat.

Good luck but going forward I would protect the lids. I have a set of bag lid covers that came with last bike but never cared for the look so on the shelf they sit. On the other bike I have the HD twin rail covers with LED light on rear. Very nice setup, additional lights are always a good thing and no scratches on the lids. Well worth the price IMO.

I was in the process of backing my wife's bike out of the garage for our first ride in 2017. Forgot about the snowblower and put a scrape / gouge in the right saddlebag in the silver paint. Local body shop filled the gouge, painted and clear coated the entire silver portion and matched the color to a T, $350 .

Don't know what bike you have, but I paid about $300 for an HD factory painted replacement Saddlebag bottom. Sounds like overkill for a scratch, but if your repair costs and a replacement part costs are similar might be worth looking into.

$350 sounds a bit steep to me. Last year I had a front fender repainted. It went from black to two tone (dark cherry pearl / pewter pearl) with pin stripes and clear coat for $300. The paint itself was a good half of that cost.
I've done a bit of painting before and matching a scratch in silver is hard to do. I'd get someone with some experience to do the work.

is it actually thru the paint? you can probably just use a touch up paint pen to fill it and not stress about it...

Check with your dealer to see who they use for paint repair.

You might get lucky and find someone who already has your color in their inventory.

If not, your dealer could inquire about the availability of a matching bag from the factory pain shop.

I have tried that before with HD factory touch up paint and although it looked better, still kind of tacky but then I ain't no painter. Others results may vary.
