Default primary inspection cover

I picked up a 2007 Heritage recently and started doing some research into required maintenance. I watched a few videos on adjusting the primary, went out to look at the bike and...well, no inspection cover. Does this mean the primary cover on the bike is cheap aftermarket or stock and covers with a removable inspection plate came out later and it just happens all the videos I found were made using later model bikes?

Videos are very helpful, but your best source of reference is a genuine factory service manual, for your model year. Then you can watch videos with much better info! You can also look at the detail of parts for your bike on-line here. Your primary doesn't have an inspection cover, so what you have looks stock.

The earlier Big Twin Harley's had the inspection cover in the outer primary cover.
In 2007, HD installed an automatic mechanical primary chain tensioner in all Twin Cam 96" engines. Hence in 2007, the primary chain inspection cover was removed.
Also in 2007, a new inner primary housing was installed. Now the inner primary must be removed to service the rotor and stator.

A couple of notes:
1. Many people do not like the automatic mechanical primary chain tensioner and replace it with a different product.
2. Some people will grind the inner primary if they have to remove the rotor and stator so they don't have to remove the inner primary.

Ok interesting. Reading the first response I was already thinking that the inspection cover was a newer modification to make it easier to do the adjustment and it turns out to be the opposite; access was eliminated since you no longer need to adjust the tension. Good to know and many thanks. Also it'd be good if folks that made those videos said that lol
