Default 2017 FLHTK KLUNKY transmission

I have a 2017 FLHTK with just over 1K miles. The transmission is extremely rough and has a very loud KLUNK in every gear and louder with down shifting. It is so KLUNKY you can feel the KLUNK in the clutch handle. I am now at the point I wish I had never upgraded from my 2014 FLHTK. That transmission shifted very smoothly HELP

The primary fluid sounds like it could be low. Have the level checked, stranger things than that have been missed by the last service or the factory if you haven't had it serviced yet.

This one can shift smooth too, just need to find out why it isn't. Basic things first.

I can't answer your query, but you do have a warranty and your dealer should be able to solve this - that is what he is there for! I hope you are successful and let us know what the result is. If you haven't had the first service done, now is the time - and tell the service department what you ahve told us!

I have over 7600 miles on my 2017 RK.. It clumks all the time.. No matter what oil is in the tranny or primary..

BTW, worth checking tranny fluid and primary as some of the 17s have been having issues with fluid transfer..

Sorry for not replying in a while I have been on travel for work. I have talked to 3 dealerships including 1 in London and well at least 3 of them agreed with what is the issue. It seems in the 2017 Tour bikes they installed what is called an Assist and Slip Clutch. This clutch is designed to deliver extra power.

It works very much like the ABS on the bike. What I am feeling is the hydraulic pulse resulting from the assist and slip ramps in the clutch reacting to the instantaneous speed changes during a gear ratio change (shift) In other words during acceleration the assists ramps increase pressure between the clutch plates increasing clutch capacity, during engine breaking the slipper ramps reduce pressure between the clutch plates decreasing clutch capacity allowing for slip.

When I asked about previous years and non assist and slip clutches I was told the activation zone has been changed over previous line up due to increase clutch lift achieved by the new MY17 clutch

I had the 1K service done with SYN3 and that is when I really noticed the change. 2 of the local dealers and 1 in London recommended that at the 5k change out to AMSOL and it will quiet the klunk down some. According to the 4 dealerships this klunk is normal and they has not been any issues with the transmission.

The goals of the new clutch was to reduce the lever effort to disengage the clutch, hydraulic actuation which eliminates need for adjustments, reduce rear wheel hop under downshifting due to the slipper feature and it is suppose to increase performance in other works if you like to do burn outs this is for you.

Try a little different upshift rpm. And forget that engine braking downshift. Brakes are a lot cheaper than a clutch and wear and tear on the drivetrain. As you approach a red or yellow light, just lift, brake and near the end before any engine shudder from too low an rpm, clutch and click down thru.

You bike sound normal to me.
