Too cool.. Bet that grade of plate won't crack My GD in my shop..
It shouldn't crack under any circumstances. We have good stuff at work. Makino four axis cnc mill. Wire edm. Haas lathe and several conversational mills.

Cool..I came to Newport News Shipbuilding back in the 60s and did a 46 year career in and around the 4 machine shops we had there. Back when I came, a lot of workers were from NC, WV, TN and other outer states. The people from TN were alway bragging on their fast cars.
My small shop which I gave to my son only has the gunsmith lathe, small verticle, welding and a horizontal bandsaw.
Think it is odd to the actual function of the original plate. It really had nothing to do with spring load on the plates. Guess it just sort of preloads the spring to take some effort out of the lever. Do those four bolts have a shoulder on them like a stripper or more properly called shoulder bolt.
