Default Questions while checking primary fluid.

I have an 86 fxr. I pulled the derby cover to check the primary oil(suspected it was low due to oil leak) and found that the pressure plate was cracked. Oh boy I know the motor is built. It has a hell of a cam and it will flat run. Guy who built it passed away and I don't have exact specs on anything. What pressure plates would y'all recommend to prevent this from happening again.

My guess is someone over torqued it but it is 31 years old. Appears Harley still has the adjuster plate at $65. or so. Good deal to me. Harley does not sell junk.

Exactly how does that adjuster plate work. probably a stupid question but can you catch more holes with bolts? I went to my FXR service manual and checked what they do. The clutch is actually set up for an adjustment for three clutch loads. Crazy

I will check and see if the bolt pattern lines up another way or buy another one. Thanks

Moving the pressure plate to a different setting is not going to make the problem go away.

That part should be replaced before you run the bike.
