Default Transmission Sprocket Installation Question

I have a couple of questions about conflicting information I've read in the HD service manual/instruction sheets regarding replacing the transmission sprocket.
I've recently replaced a number of seals in my 1993 Fatboy. Along with replacing the various transmission seals, I also installed the HD Transmission Sprocket Kit (40210-85D) which includes among other things the updated pulley which has more spline area.

Anyways, according to the instruction sheet (J00092) included with the Transmission Sprocket Kit, it says:
1. Apply a few drops of red loctite (262) to the transmission sprocket nut
2. The socket head screws that secure the lockplate to the transmission sprocket nut have a thread locking compound applied to them. Since this compound remains effective for about three removal/installation cycles, the screws can be used up to three times. (HD part number: 3594) -> had what looked like a white color Loctite patch

Since my 2011 Ultra is now also leaking fluid, I'm going to replace those seals as well. Reading through the HD service manual for this bike, I've noticed the following differences in regards to reinstalling the transmission sprocket:

1. Apply Loctite red (271) to the threads of the sprocket nut. NOTE: it doesn't say a few drops like the previous instruction sheet did
2. Instructions also say to spread clean oil on the inside face of the sprocket nut and the outside face of the sprocket where the surfaces of the two parts contact each other. NOTE: The previous instruction sheet made no mention of this. I did not do this when I installed the new sprocket on the Fatboy.
3. The service manual says the lockplate screws (HD 3594) can be used up to three times if Locktite red (271) is applied before installation.

Why the differences? I'm guessing new procedures developed over the years?
What is recommended? Should I be using red Loctite if I reuse the lockplate screws?
Why the red Loctite change from 262 to 271?

Edit Update: The instruction sheet for the transmission sprocket kit did say to apply a light film to the flanged side of the sprocket nut. I'm sure I did follow this step!
