Trying to secure one of these from GMR Performance. These used to be available with the "Compensaver" aftermarket oiler system ( NLA sadly as a complete unit !)

This is to replace the 3 piece roller bearing that comes with the latest 2014 and up SE Compensator kits. This has been suggested as a source of my "whirring noise"

This quest of mine has turned up a trove of info , so sorry this link is being typed manually

Another primary strip down today. Chain and clutch basket/starter ring gear touching the inner primary since the last build.

Chain near the lower front as in the photos attached. What is it with that I ask ?

Put in the updated Genuine chain tensioner to see if that makes any difference

Part # 39929-06B Noticeably "thicker" in the base than the OEM original.

Could have put in the Screamin Eagle manual but decided not to. ( Hopefully correctly !)

Still spring pack and /or roller bearing noise from the compensator as suggested before now.

Can't locate a GMR performance composite washer sadly

If the ring gear is touching the primary case as shown, it's probably a good idea to replace the inner primary bearing. The may be part of you noise. If doing so I'd open up the oil feed hole to the inner primary bearing.

Had a real good "look" at the inner primary bearing , all seemed good. No roughness or visibly obvious wear points.

How do you "open up the oil feed hole to the inner primary bearing" ?

I am starting to wonder if in the first build I have inadvertently left out a spacer or divider. say from the rear of the clutch basket for example ?

I don't think so but have been racking my brain. Funny how the mind works sometimes

Chain run seemed within spec. Could have spaced the SE comp sprocket "better" but no shim/washer thin enough to hand

The Baker compensator is starting to look good I must say ! Quite a different setup indeed ! Again funny how the mind works.

I am almost $1000 Aussie into this problem now with no resolution...

With a counter sink or center drill. There aren't any spacers that go behind the clutch.

Thanks mate. I did not "think" I had left anything out , I'm fairly cautious and careful. Just mind tricks probably.

I have read over the 'net that some folks are happy with the SE Compensator , but many others are not so !

Some folks are on their third update , whereas mine was straight from original 2008 OEM to a kit 40100061 packed date 06/01/18 fits '07-'11 SOFTAIL

So it would appear to be the correct update kit for my 2008 CVO Springer

That scuffing of the inner primary face by the ring gear I have seen other photos like that , worse scuffed than mine.

Obviously that means it can be a "thing"

Other reports are that the outer thin 3 piece roller bearing that comes in the later kits may be one source of noise. I coated that with redline very carefully on the build yesterday.

Gunna do a few k's today before it gets too hot ( to be 32 today , 38 Saturday, 41 Sunday !) Too hot for an air cooled motorcycle methinks !

Quote attributed to GMR Performance

With almost a year of experience with the #42200064A the main source of complaints being voiced and published is the added noise of this assembly. The axial roller thrust bearing creates a metal on metal action which is greatly adding to the sound resonance of the assembly. Replacing it with a specifically designed composite thrust washer for this application relieves much of this noise. It also eliminates the growing concerns of the axial rollers and related parts.

Just had my 50K's round trip down the coast ( 41C on the way home !). Primary still noisy , not settling down. Assuming the 3 part roller bearing that comes in the SE compensator kit is the noise source

Next step is use the PEEK washer to replace the roller thrust 3 part bearing that comes in the "upgraded/latest" SE compensator kits.

POLYETHER ETHER KETONE is the base material.

Use the PEEK washer that is OEM on the M8 Compensator , part # 40100064 ,as this has been suggested to me already from the forums.

Has radial grooves to allow oil ingress , probably a good idea.

(part # gleaned from the Ronnie's HD online microfiche, a treasure trove of info.)

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel.asp?Type=13&make=hdmc&a=1237&b=17&c=0&d= 2018 FXBRS ANX BREAKOUT 114 115TH ANNIV EDITION (YT) BELTS W/ CHAINS AND SPROCKETS

So I will be ordering part # 40100064 from local Perth HD dealer Frasers on Monday. That will require ANOTHER stripdown , crank thread reaming chit of a job for CHITsake...

Chit I'm a funging nexpert at this job now !

I will check on the progress of this updated tensioner while in there of course. At $127.25 Aussie perhaps a primary chain as well.
