Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
I have a 2001 wide glide, it has a 95 kit on it with basic mods pushing about 240-250psi in each cylinder. I have been having trouble with starters alot lately, spykes starters in general.. The bendex drives either break or the clutch in the starter fries..
With that said, today at the Philadelphia toy run with my newly installed Compu-fire starter hoping this would solve all the problems! I stopped for a pitstop and went to start the motor and the motor kicked back and made a awful sound.
I grabbed the clutch and it has nothing, I am running a barnett scorpion clutch, it grabs hard so it doesnt slip I am thinking the motor kicked back and tore the clutch basket and all to hell, Possibly more damage, I am kinda scared to open it up to see what exactly went wrong..
Has anyone else had this problem, I know after this I am putting compression releases on this bike!
RE: Problem with worked twincam motor and starter..
if you are pushing 240-250 psi on a compression check you are way high, 185-190 is usual. I have 205 front and rear and that is high but I have an exceptional motor for a 95 and I am at 10.5:1. If those are your numbers you should have had compression releases done at build time. You are never going to find a starter to take that. Get releases for sure but what are you running to get 240-250 compression?
RE: Problem with worked twincam motor and starter..
I have the screaming eagle heads but they were sent out before I even put them on and had them ported/polished/shaved and flow benched, high compression pistons, screamin eagle cam list goes on.. Alot of the locals say its bigger then a 95 because it performs so well.. Just takes the right stuff togather and the know how
I can roll it at 20-25 in 3rd gear and romp it and the front wheel comes off the ground 2-2 1/2ft with just me, or riding with a passanger on the back.
