Default Loud gearbox screech.

Hi everyone, I have developed an issue yesterday with my Bobber, it developed a very loud screeching noise in the gearbox only in 4th & 5th the other gears are fine, the clutch is fine (operating properly) if you engage the clutch it goes away, disengage its noise is there, does anybody have any idea or have come across this issue in the past, I'm picking its a box issue and would need a rebuild. But not sure.

So you're holding the clutch in , in 4th or 5th, the tranny screeches. What tranny, 5 speed or 6?

SO with the clutch engaged, going down the road, it screeches. I'd be thinking inner primary bearing. I'd be sure it's not a belt alignment problem.

Thanks, probably need to give more details on the bike open primary (Ultima) it only in 4th and 5th at any speed if primary bearing would be all gears I would have thought? belt alignment is good on the primary and bike is chain final Drive main gear box bearing was done about 18 months ago as with primary bearing while is was apart every thing turns freely and smooth that's what's got me stumped!

So you're sure the clutch isn't slipping. On a hard launch, you might hear it.

Tried loading it up on the way home and no slipping that I could detect.

If you purposely slip the clutch, does it squeal?

Still might be the inner primary bearing.

Yes, but dry clutch with kevlar plates always done it if you slip it, but still bites and goes its never slipped while riding. Also wasn't under load when noise appeared just cruising on flat road but mybe I will pull the clutch a inspect it anyway.

Not under load kind a says inner primary bearing. The bearing is likely a 3205 that has been honed for a slip fit on the mainshaft. Not under load the inner ring could slip if the bearing is dragging. Giving information like this helps with the diagnosis.
