For the last few years, I've had a aftermarket compensator gizmo. I'm chasing down a rattle and I though it might be failing, as I have been warned that failure was probable. Well, I've had it on there for 15,000 miles or so, and upon inspection, it looks perfect.
Regardless, there was no reason to change out the stock compensator in the first place, and I think I'll put it back on while I have the primary cover off.
So here's the "BigQuestion...."
Is there a spacer between the compensator hub and the alternator cover? It's been a while and I don't remember. There is a spacer there now, but I'm fairly certain it came with the aftermarket unit to correct the chain alignment.
So I'm not certain if it's supposed to be there with the stock compensator.
Yes or no?
What year bike do you have? There's no spacer on the stock comp but there are Bellville washers and depending on year they can be captive or loose. If it's the later version of the stock comp it's not a bad unit..not perfect but certainly better than the earlier version. I just put the screaming eagle compensator in my with 70k on the original and I never realized how bad mine was until now. No more kick back on starts, no more clunk on shut off, the "snatchiness" ...not sure that's a word...but its gone too. Would have loved to do the darkhorse setup but I really needed it now and my dealer had one in stock.
