OK what happened, how do I fix and what have I screwed up? Rebuilding my 04 FXST to 107 Darkhorse crank and Hillside top end. While I had the tranny laying on the table decided to change the 3 outside seals on the 5th gear since one had been leaking. Changed the main and Quad seal no problem and though I had the inner seal but somehow tapping the seal in with a 1 inch pvc and rubber hammer I have moved the 5th gear main shaft inboard. Not enough to start sprocket nut. Sooooo how bad have I screw up and path forward. Thinks for any help.
You mean pull it back with the nut using a bearing puller just like I removed 5th gear race? I HATE tranny's!
No pullers or dicking with the race, should be able to do it with just your fingers, it should not be that a tight a fit unless something got bound up.
Dry shift the bike into 5th see if that pops it back out for you, you can do that by turning the mainshaft by hand while shifting.
