Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
Just shredded the Primo Rivero belt in the primary on my '93 FXR. It's the regular enclosed primary. Can I leave the pully at the rear (clutch) end on and just slip the new belt over it?
Do I really need to align anything since it ran OK for the past seven years before shredding? If so, how so?
I get a small amount of oil leaking from the crank into the primary. Somebody once told me there's a seal behind the front pulley that gets reversed when installing a dry belt system and that's most likely my problem. How will I know whether it's in incorrectly or not?
Some of them you slip over but it's a real pain in the *** to get it over the front pulley then with out stretching and maybe damaging the belt , those run pretty tight anyway . Once the belt has been mugged by wresting in and over tight spots you actually damage the internal fiber bans and it will track off and eat it self fast . Ask me how I know that one at $130 a pop for the belt that lasted 30 miles .
Do nothing to the motor seal it won't make any difference with today's better seals , the old single lip one's you did that with we're talking early shovelhead years . The new seals work both ways with the double lip tech .
