Default Summer jacket

I live in NY and commute to Manhattan daily.I leave home at 4 am and its a bit cold so Im looking for a mesh or textile jacket that can also be worn in warmer weather. It gets down to around 60 or 70 at night and up to 90 in the daytime here.
Ive never owned anything but leather and there are alot of different ones to choose from.I do like the looks of the ICON brand.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

I've had a First Gear mesh jacket for a couple of years. It has a zip in windbreaker liner, which is is a plus. Problem is it is still pretty hot with the liner out. When I rode across NV, UT and AZ I was frigging hot even at 7:30 am. Noe, I understand nothing will help in that temp. oneYou have mentioned that it gets to be about 90 as a high there\\; same here in the San Diego away from the coast, in the day time.

I have recently order the Vansons Mesh Tech 3 as it is as near to naked as I think you can get. It does not ave a line and is really 'breezy'. I figure I'll just get a cheap windbreaker in the next size up and throw it over if I am out when the temp drops a little. The Vansons is a bit more pricey than many of the others out there including the one I have now.

Point is\\; it has denier nylon (high abrasion resistance, does not melt to skin) has leather liners in the elbows and shoulders, and leather bead trim around collar and cuffs and does not make you look like one of the Power Ranger sport bike jackets. I got the silver for greater visibility than my current black.

I have the HD Tenacity Mesh jacket with armor inserts and I love it. Under $150, even with the armor, great protection, lots of pockets, very cool when riding, not bad when stopped. Not a lot of room to layer underneath it but as the salesman said, "If you need to be layering, you probably shouldn't be wearing mesh."

Yeah, I saw that one at a dealership. Didn't have my size so I took it no further. Looked nice though!

Hey, sandhog, now that I think about it, the HD Switchback jacket may be the ticket. Is a textile jacket when cool, then panels snap off to reveal mesh.

I have the Men's Harley-DavidsonÂŽ Mesh Jacket Part#98225-06VM. Very nice. It is a light grey mesh that breathes very well in the heat and can even keep you warm when the temp dips. I use it nearly all year in Houston. The material seems to reflect the sun heat and since the mesh breathes so well, I rarely break a sweat (unless there is traffic and then my bike cooks me to death). I use until the temp dips below 55.
&nbsp\\;
If you buy it locally, you will pay dearly. I did a fit test locally and then won a bid on Ebay from an out of state dealer trying to move merchandise. Locally, you can expect to pay $170\\; harley dealer selling stuff on Ebay $120. The jacket also comes with kevlar removable inserts, reflective piping and a refelectve small (4 inch) HD emblem on the back. It also has inside pockets and front pockets that zip.

I had a mesh jacket and found that I hated the feel of the nylon on my skinwhen it is warm you are going to be wearing short sleeves. I sold mine and bought a Harley perforated leather jacket. Much better. (The model I have was a special for a year or so and is out of production but there are other newer models to choose from.)

I bought one of the grey mesh Harley jackets but returned it and bought

<Men's Desert Road Jacket

Lightweight and styled like your favorite denim jacket, but built for the ride in water-resistant, coated cotton canvas with pockets at shoulder and elbows with lightweight body armor, an action back, front and back vents and pre-curved sleeves. Two zippered hand-warmer pockets, two snap-down chest pockets, and one inside chest pocket. Adjustable snap tabs at waist. Snap cuffs, collar and front closure. Embroidered graphics.

97379-08VM

MSRP US $125.00 - US $145.00 per size and/or color>

Works well with a light fleece underneath on cool mornings and on it's own later on hot days.

I'm very happy with it and can wear it anywhere which was certainly not the case with the grey mesh one.

The leather switch back was half price here. Still expensive at ÂŁ250.
They didn't have my size but I thought it too complicated anyway.

There's a fabric one for sale here
