Had the Harley Reduced Effort Clutch Kit, HD part no. 36808-05, installed in my 04 FLHTPI (police EG) and felt like I had gone from a car with no power steering to one that has power steering. Okay, that may be a slight overstatement of the dramatic effect of this kit on the effort to squeeze the clutch lever, but it is only a slight exageration.
The first time I rode with it I wasn't sure if the lever was connected to the clutch, so light was the effort to squeeze the lever.
This is a stock feature on the 2006 Harley line, but even squeezing the clutch on the new bikes in the showroom doesn't seem a fair comparison.
The kit is advertised as reducing clutch effort by 30%, but it feels like the reduction is actually much greater.
In any case, riding in traffic heavy metro Atlanta requires a lot of gear changing and this reduced effort clutch is just the ticket for making the ordeal much more bearable.
I would give this product an "A" for doing what it is supposed to do; and another "A" for value.
I was quoted 2.0 hours labor by one Harley dealer for this service only. I had the kit installed in conjunction with installation Rinehart True Duals and a 10K service and was charged .7 hour for labor on the reduced effort clutch kit. $350 quote sounds extremely high. It wouldn't have gotten done on my bike at that price.
I am having this installed at the local dealer while it is in for warranty repairs. They are fixing a inner primary leak. They still want to charge me $165.00 for it. Am I being ripped off? Sure sounds like double dipping to me. Your opinion is important before I go throw them under a bus. Oh yeah... the reasom I am having it installed is an injury. Tennis elbow of the worst type. Major suck-o-rooney.
A buddy of mine had this installed on his 05 RK Custom and it feels exactly the same as stock. He also has an 06 Streetglide and the direct comparison is a joke. I installed it myself on my 04 FLST and it does feel lighter, but it's not that much of a difference. The dealer said that because of our braided steel clutch cables the difference will be minimal. That doesn't make sense to me. Anyone else experience this?
