I will be coming from Boise. So i84 is the way to go? We'll be sure to check out Old Time, I'm pretty sure we will have time.
Planning on probably about a week, and playing most of it by ear.
Thanks for the info so far all!
I re-read my post and cannot believe anyone could understand it. Sorry about that.
I would go I84 then in Portland get on Hwy 26 west take 26 all the way to Seaside; it will be the easiest and a very beautiful ride (it can get very windy on I84 in spots though; typically around Hood River). Note if you go into Seaside you will end up back tracking after visiting the town back out to hit Hwy 101 South or you can skip Seaside and stroll through Cannon Beach (fun little town that i visist every time): Mo's has some great Clam Chowder. Seaside is as close as you will come to a Cali Pier type town.
The I84 and the Gorge:
Pendleton Oregon Cadillac Jack's Saloon & Grill I've never been but I've heard it is a good biker friendly place. Not a big deal so i wouldn't go out of your way. Just an option.
Multnomah Falls will not disappoint you: http://www.oregon.com/attractions/multnomah_falls
Crown Point vista house give you an amazing view of the Gorge. http://vistahouse.com/history/the-vista-house-story/
Hood River has a great Brewery: fullsailbrewing.com
Hwy 26:
Give Camp 18 a try http://www.camp18restaurant.com/ . really cool restaurant good food. Depending on Weather it is also a good place to add layers depending on weather on the Oregon Coast. Typically the Oregon Coast Range temps can drop. Key word is "Can" you never know on the Oregon Coast.
During July from Boise to Oregon Coast you can experience at times experience a 30-40 degree temp change. I've road to the coast then its 95 degrees in Portland and only 65 degrees at the coast. I typically pack for wardrobe changes and a couple sets of gloves.

Thanks for the info! Debating on staying a night in Portland. I've been before but it was years ago in a car. Don't know if we want to go all the way to the coast in 1 day, or hit someplace like Portland. I'm thinking Seaside is the place to "start".

Hey Big Dog ,
We always stop in Florence . great town.
Then I like to head south and stop for lunch at the Porthole in Gold Beach.
On to Crescent City ,CA. and the Redwood Hwy 199 north to Grants Pass.
From Grants Pass east on I 5 to Gold Hill and 234 to Hwy 62 to Crater Lake.
The ride and the lake are fantastic. Take the East Rim drive at Crater.
My wife informed me that we are going to the OR Coast this summer. No real plans, just riding. Any suggestions on where to go and what to see? We are planning on July hoping on less rain...
thanks all!
He is going from Boise, ID to the Oregon Coast for a road trip down the Oregon Coast and you are bringing up Crater Lake??? Don't get me wrong i loved my trip to Crater Lake but it seems really out of the way for the trip at hand.

And he is going back to Idaho right? So when the Oregon state line ends and becomes California one can turn around and head north backtracking or start to work your way back to Boise.
So Crater north to Hwy 97 then east on 26 to 84 to Boise is one way .
Not out of the way but on the way home. Just a scenic suggestion.

What is in Cedar City? Would the ride back north be in the Redwoods?

Point taken.. Hwy 97 would be a great return. Sorry about that, At Florence over to Eugene then Roseburg via Hwy 138 to Crater lake?
