We always go a week early and stay at the Silverado. We request rooms across the street at their motor lodge. It's not fancy, but you can walk anywhere downtown and the bikes are parked in front of your room. the staff is great and they have an excellent breakfast buffet. It has a great little balcony to sit on and kick back after riding all day. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.
And, as someone mentioned earlier, Saloon #10 👍

We stayed at the Best Western Hickok House a couple years back. Nice rooms and a shuttle to take you downtown. The rooms were about $100.00 a night and the shuttle ride is only five minutes. I'm planning on going back this year.

Thanks all of you for the advice. Only bikers understand what you need in a motel stay & firsthand info is invaluable. Just another reason I love this site!

Cedar Wood Inn. Catch the trolley and go anywhere you want. Super clean rooms, nice little courtyard and good bike parking.

The Historic Bullock Hotel, 100+ years old. Bar and restaurant in Hotel, downtown on Main street in Deadwood. www.bullockhotel.com

I've stayed there twice. Love it.

My wife and I stayed at the "historic" Franklin Inn in '03........not so much.......old and smelly with a cobbled together bathroom/shower in the older rooms. The good thing was the bar on the front patio overlooking the street, great people and motorcycle watching.

FYI, I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a guest to patronize the Franklin's balcony bar.

IMO the Stockade is better bar for people watching from it's balcony.

As for the Franklin's accommodations; I couldn't agree with you more.
The place makes you feel like your back in the '80s and I'm not talking about the 1880s.

I stayed for an overnighter just before the rally in 2013 at the Iron Horse.

It was alright. They had a casino if you want that, and was a place to sleep. Theryre pretty much downtown. I would have explored more, but I knw I was riding the next day, so I didn't want to be messed up...

I woke however at 04:00 and was riding by 04:30. I was ready to be home I guess.

We stayed at the first gold last year and we're going back this year. I loved it. They have a parking ramp to park in so your bike is protected from bad weather. Also, the breakfast buffet was great and the blackjack tables were fun a great way to pass the time if weather was bad. It's plenty close enough to walk into downtown anytime you want.
