Deadwood advice needed
We're lucky in that my in-laws own a vacation home there.
However we always stay at Hickoks the last weekend of July which is the finals of the Days of 76 Rodeo.
We don't go to the Rodeo but Saloon #10 is a blast Friday night.
We stay Friday and Saturday night because after Friday night we don't want to have to get up and check out on Saturday.
I hear that Bullocks is a good place as well.
I don't recommend the Franklin (Silverado) unless you only want a place to lay your head and then book a room across the street from the main hotel (Motorlodge).
Be prepared to pay more than expected.
With the 75th Rally expected to be the biggest ever a lot of people of doing the pre-Sturgis so a lot of hotels are raising prices for the pre-Rally.
We booked our stay at the Hickoks last August so we got it booked before everyone raised prices.

There's a Trolley that goes back and forth through Deadwood that's only a $1.00 per ride.
I'm not sure if it goes up to the KOA, but perhaps.
Jmorgan, Bluehog, Ill check into the Holiday Inn possibility
Thanks for all the suggestions! I like the idea of covered / secure bike parking. We know the rates will be high & have accepted that. We just want to ride all day then park the bikes at night & walk up & down the bars-casino

The Lodge in Deadwood. Just oustside of town, great parking, nice hotel, has a shuttle to take you into town. We stay here every time we go.

The garage is covered but open to anyone who wants to walk in but it is under surveillance.
We've never had a problem parking the bike there.
There is free uncovered public parking about three blocks away if you trailer your bike.
As for walking the streets; that's why we stay two nights in Deadwood even though we have a free vacation home to stay at near Sheridan Lake.
Come Saturday morning around 2:00 AM you'll find us staggering from the #10 to the Hickok. No worries about DWIs or crashing that night.
Lastly, if you don't mine dropping about $100 for a meal for two, Jake's at the Midnight Star is 4 star dining and is a real treat.
I'm more of a Golden Coral kinda diner but it's nice to treat the Wife to an upscale dining experience every once in awhile.
The Midnight Star and Jakes is Kevin Costner's place.
