Yeah I remember brakes overheating on Grandpa's '50 Merc and running it into the bank to stop about halfway down Tioga. Good Times.... If ya want a little taste of old mountain grades take the old road on the right up to Groveland. My aunt's '51 chev wouldn't make it up there before it was improved and she had to turn around. New road is alot longer and twisty but not near as steep.

Mapquest is saying Groveland to Yosemite Valley and then back to 120 to Lee Vining is 123 miles, 3.5 hrs without stops. Seems like a pretty easy day or am I reading this wrong? Thanks again!!

I live in the area. I would do the 395- 88-89
-4-49 to groveland from reno about 4 hours+ stop times.from grove land to glacier point about 2 hours maybe a little less.once you leave the valley and start up to glacier point stop at the tunnel view. then head up to glacier point. then back to the valley about 45 mins. stop at the tunnel view again trust me the view will be different. then to bridalveil falls about a 10 min walk. then in to the valley should be lunch time. after lunch then a stop and walk 20min to lower Yosemite falls. then head out to 120 and lee vining stoping at olmsted point about 2hrs from valley with a few vista stops along the way. then about 45 mins to lee vining. you will see the best the park has to offer this way enjoy. like I said I live in the area and ride there all the time.
Is 120 Tioga Pass to Lee Vining open now? DOT says it's closed Crane Flats to 395. Also says 4 is closed over sierras. Might want to check highway condition first.

I would guess that in the next few weeks they will be open.they got about 13" of snow last week but that wont last long.as soon as theres no threat of snow they will open.if it wounld of snowed then they where looking at opening it this week end(17th). 108 usually opens first.
