If you run the Dragon on a weekend, get there early morning before the knuckleheads get out. Dragon and Cherohola on the same day is very doable, I've done it a couple times. But there are so many more great rides, you need to schedule a week to enjoy them.
I have done this trip several times leaving from Cleveland. It takes me just about 10 hours from leaving the house to get to the Deals Gap Resort. That is with stopping about every 150 miles and not stopping for lunch.
I have arrived at the Dragon right around 5 PM each time on a Friday and the traffic on the Dragon around that time has always been very light.

Have fun on your trip.
I go down every year. 10 hours is making time and hoping you get out of ohio without an accident/traffic/construction . It's a good pull down and back.
I would leave around 5pm on Thursday and slab half way - Dry Ridge, Ky has a microcell hotel for about $60. Pizza and beer place is within walking distance when you get there.
.
Then Friday's slab ride is only about 4-5 hours - plenty of time to ride the Dragon and Cherohala on Friday. Then on Saturday, ride rt 28 down to Dillard, GA for lunch at the Dillard House.

RIDE ON....
So we went down Friday the 24th. We managed to get there in 8 hours, thats running 80 mph plus on the highway. We stayed at the two wheel inn and could not have lucked out anymore, amazing weather, we met some really nice people while there and believe it or not the dragon was not very busy! We did the loop Moonshiner 28 to the Fontana dam to the dragon then on to the Cherohala.
What a beautiful ride and lots of fun roads! We left on Sunday morning and hit the dragon probably saw two bikes that was it, second time through was just as fun and a good way to start the ride home off, after we left Tennessee it seemed like it took forever to get home but it was a trip well worth it! Cant wait to get down there again for a longer period of time! Thanks everyone!
Now that you have the dragon under your belt, I have to ask. Did you ever ride the Triple Nickel, Rt.555 in SE Ohio? That part of your state offers a lot of good riding.
While I ride the Dragon and Smokey's area at least once a year I'm really growing fond of SE Ohio. If you don't want to talk about it and keep it a secret, I understand.

Yep ... Southeast Ohio has some great scenery and fabulous roads too ... Shhhhhhhh
I am aware of the triple nickel. I attempted to ride it last year but a buddies bike broke down on the way. I love to ride Hocking Hills area but that still does not compare to the fun I had on the dragon!
I will probably be heading to the 555 sooner than later now to crave my itch for curves!
