Headed out on a 5 day run to Big Bend National Park with a couple friends who have never been. This will be my 5th trip out there but always looking for a new adventure there!
Can't wait to get outa here! I need the seat time!
Moved to Houston within the last year. Looking to ride out to big bend. Would like to know what route you'll take. Have a safe trip.
I'm riding to Daytona tomorrow morning. It's Biketoberfest this weekend and I'm looking forward to hooking up with an old friend from Virginia.
I typically stay in Alpine. Nice central location. I'm actually driving to Kerrville Wed night...then working my way to 90. On the way back...ill do the ride in one day with virtually no time on i10.
Once past San Antonio (well...Blanco) on I-10 its smooooth sailing with higher speeds/lower traffic.
I do that small run from North Houston and stop at Javalina HD on I-10 for a small break and look around.
In 2010 stayed the night at a historic hotel in small, small town Marathon Texas. Its about 20 miles or so outside of BB. The Gage Motel. Nice clean modern rooms but no TV! The idea was they wanted you to hang out in the small patio/courtyard and check out the stars! Very nice
They also had a chef from Austin do a 3 course meal which would have been very good in a big city but in a small town it was incredible. And reasonable.
Should be nice weather and great riding. Enjoy!

Well...I got to visit Javalina HD today. We were abou 11 miles south of Kerrville when my buddies clutch went out. We waited 3 hours for a tow back to Javalina HD. The guys there got us fixed very quick. Since we had such a late start, we rose I-10 to 67 don into Alpine. It wasn't as scenic as I had planned but we got here!
Big Bend and the river road to Presidio tomorrow. McDonalds observatory, Ft Davis and the Davis mountains the next.
All in all a great day considering we had a difficult start.
