Looks like a nice ride. How long do you expect it to take? Two days? More? I rode Ely to Groveland on my way back from Sturgis this August. I've also rode 50 a number of times. Have you checked the long range weather forecast? Could be cold in places.
I did the groveland to warm springs section earlier this year, it was beautiful. When my son drove it a month later I had him stay at the Clown motel in Tonopah.
I'm thinking of doing it in two days or maybe three. The Fallon, NV to Ely, NV is 257 miles. I have a six gallon tank, but that is pushing the limit of my range, so I may have to carry a half gallon of gas or a gallon just in case.

There is gas to be had between Fallon and Ely. I did that ride in 2013 on the fxr. I don't remember where we filled up but it was probably in Austin. We spent a night there. There are four motels in Austin. It's history is as a mining town. It was sort of dead though we enjoyed a good meal.
The longest stretch you are going to have with no gas will be between Ely and Tonopah. That's about 165 miles. I did that this past summer on the fld and I arrived with plenty of gas.
And I did pass through Groveland this past Saturday on my way to Death Valley. The weather was fine. Right now it is misty in San Francisco so I imagine you may be having some mild snow at the higher elevations. That shouldn't close the Tioga Road but we both know the closing of 120 for the season is not too far away, especially if this El Nino hits.
Thanks Michael. Yes my Google maps app on my phone shows a gas station in Austin and another in Eureka. I am monitoring the weather forecasts. It looks like there my be a window of good weather starting late next week.
The rain is welcome so if I can't make the trip, no worries. We need rain and that is more important.
Never had a chance to ride any of these rides, but I've driven them by Jeep several times. Great country. Once, on US 6 heading toward Ely from Tonopah, I went about 45 minutes (at 70 mph) without seeing another vehicle.
