Default Best ride through Kentucky and West Virginia

I'm finalizing plans for a cross country trip from NY to CA and back through the northern states. I'm thinking I'd like to come back though Kentucky and West Virginia. I'm finding references to the Western Kentucky Parkway and the Bluegrass Parkway. I'd like to include part of the Bourbon Trail, or at least detour to a few top distilleries. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers,
Doc

This site should help you out for WV. This one will help you for KY Bourbon Trail. Most any route you take off the interstates should be a good ride.

I would recommend the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, KY. The have tours and a great gift shop/spirit shop. They sell Eagle Rare witch I would highly recommend. Good luck with your trip.

Makers mark, Jim beam, heaven hill, very old Barton, and four roses, are all within a 30 mile radius in and around Bardstown, ky! If you got time, the Cumberland Falls and road to it is pretty cool!

Live in Lexington grew up in Ashland KY. Here is what I would recommend depending on your time. Hitting my three favorite bourbons. If you want to stay the night in the area for a throwback to the simple life and great food look at Shaker Village.

Bourbon Tour

Start in Bardstown KY and take US 150E to KY 605S to Makers Mark Distillery. KY-555 N and US-62 E to Wild Turkey Distillery. Then US-62 E to US-60W (main) to KY-1659 N/Elm St to Woodford Reserve Distillery.

If your really adventurous take McCracken Pike Road into Frankfort. I 64 East to I60 East.

Horses

US-60E to New Circle Rd to KY-1974 S/Tates Creek Rd to DeLong Road to Walnut Hill Road for some great horse farms.

Mountain Riding

I 64 East to Mountain Parkway to KY-11 North to KY-77 North for Nada Tunnel (bonus to travel 715 to KY 15 and back to KY-77). Get on I-64 E in Morehead from KY-77 N, US-460 E, KY-1693 N, KY-1274 N and KY-519 N

I can fill this in with more local roads but I would jump on I64 East to I79 North. Take US119 North to Clarksburg WV then US 50 East to Claysville MD.

Thanks, some good options. Makers Mark, Wild Turkey, Jim Beam would be on the list. Bardstown, KY sounds cool, as does Buffalo Trace. Thanks especially for the detailed suggestions and directions Romin Card.

It sounds like there is a lot to see, so I may end up saving this tour for a later date when I can spend more time checking these out on a dedicated bourbon tour. This time out I may end up spending more time on the western states. I guess I'll see how things pan out. Good to have options, thanks!

Cheers,
Doc

Don't know how far south that you're thinking about visiting in KY but later this summer we're heading down to the Paducah area and meeting up with some friends and relatives and basically tour, visit some shops and socialize.

Never been there before so we're spending three nights in a smaller town called Grand Rivers at Place named Patti's 1800 Settlement.
They also a restaurant a few miles away that sounds interesting.

There's a recommended 49 mile "biker" ride that's located between Barkley and Kentucky lakes that's supposed to be a nice ride.

We've done three of the Bourbon distilleries and they're nice but how much can another be much different than the previous three that we've already visited?

Travel safely!

Patti's restaurant has good food. Their pork chops are really popular.

Four Rivers Harley Davidson is at Paducah (Exit 11 on I-24). Great dealership if you'd happen to need anything.

If you are a real bourbon fan stop in Harrodsburg, KY. We stayed at the Beaumont in there and ate at the restaurant. The had Pappy Van Winkle at the bar. I think a pour was close to $100, but I hear it is supposed to be the best.
