Default North Georgia to South Georgia

Hello everybody, I'm going to be spending a few days at Copperhead Lodge in Blairsville GA in July and at the end of the trip i need to ride down to the Best Western (Best Western Colonial Inn, 1706 East 16th Avenue, Cordele, GA 31015) in Cordele on a Friday to start my trek back to Fort Lauderdale.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a route from Copperhead to the Best Western or advise whats a good route to go avoiding traffic and possibly taking backroads without getting off track. I know taking the expressways I will end up doing about 250-300 miles

When I lived in Valdosta I traveled US 41 the entire state top to bottom and vice versa. However, that takes forever. I rode I-75 the same, and it makes for a whole lot better time but you run the risk of some seriously heavy and dangerous traffic around Atlanta.

I was thinking that the Atlanta traffic would be brutal, especially since its going to be a Friday morning. I'd even consider half i-75 as long as i can avoid the Atlanta bumper to bumper action.

If you have time, I would recommend 19s to 129s to 441s down to McRae, Ga. then 280 east into Cordele. The only ~ spot, imo, in getting thru / around Athens,Ga. beyond that its all good. Even going to Home, I would take 441s to Lake city ,Fla, then 100 to Ormond Beach. It is a nice ride.

I'll be that way soon. Is Rte 75 near Atlanta brutal mid day or just rush hour? I'll be looking to make some time coming Rte 81 to Fla.

I am only there once or twice a year, so maybe I have always just been unlucky but I-75 in Atlanta has always been brutal for me with the exception of between midnight and 4 a.m.

41 is safer and I have used it a time or two, but it is very slow going in the Atlanta area because of all of the traffic lights.

Well I'm not riding in between Midnight and 4 am!! That's for sure. I can't find 41 on any of My maps. How about the loops around? 285 seems to skirt the city. This will probably be Fri of Mem day weekend! LOL

Again, I am not there very often. Maybe it isn't as bad as it seems to me, but the 285 loops have always been just as busy as I-75 when I have been there. It's nothing to stay home over or drive hundreds of miles out of the way. You just have to stay alert. Unless there has been an accident, the traffic at least usually stays moving, even if it slows down.

I meant to add, maybe I have the route number wrong. I thought it was 41. The road I am talking about parallels I-75 on the west.

If you want to go through ATL on Friday of the Memorial Day Weekend my suggestion is hit it between 10 am and 1 pm. After 1 pm you'll hit rush hour which will last to 7 or 8 in the evening.
