Lots of good replies here and it wasn't intended to be a pissing match between members, one reason I don't post much. Actually this is my first post here in months. I would like to ride, but wife wouldn't care for the distance riding and would like for her to go along just for the experience of being there. Trailed to MB bike week two times and once I was glad I did, serious downpours on the way there in NC. I've heard from past friends who have been there and the weather can be unpredictable. Flying her there is not an option but was aware of that option. I myself flew to Afghanistan and back in 2011 and since then I choose not to fly anymore myself, that was enough, not to mention the safety of todays issues. Was nice to see and hear different idea's, experiences ect. but at this point nothing has been decided. Thanks..
You do what is best for yourself, I have rode and have trailed and anyone who doesn't like me trailer ing or want to call me a trailer queen step your sorry a$$ up and try

My thoughts exactly! Its funny how fast the TOUGH GUYS turn to nice when they need to work on there bike and they here that I have a full set of tools and a bike jack tucked in my trailer.
I trailer mine and a spare every year. Borrowed the spare to a guy once and even trailed a dead one home for a guy.
We don't sleep in it out there but we do sleep in it other places.
OP take your trailer and every thing you need or thing mite be useful and have a great time. F the tough guys.
As far as I'm concerned a big part of the Sturgis experience is getting there. If at all possible ride. You won't regret it.
Bill
Yes the ride there is a huge part of going to Sturgis, but not everyone can make the run for different reasons.
Last year I had a daughter do the week after the rally and wasn't going to go. At the last minute she was told by the doctor she would be a week or two late so she asked me to go since she know it was the 75th year. But she had one request in case she went into labor and that was for me to trailer and not ride the bike in case I had to beeline to her house for the baby.
Just tired of seeing people made fun or called names because they have to trailer.
Lots of folks staying in trailers out here.. Just know that daytime temps can get pretty hot and muggy so you'd be living in a sweat box during those times. On the other hand...most camp grounds have a place to beat the heat. More than likely you'll be out enjoying the area rather than cooking in the trailer anyway. Depending on your scenario, look into the campground options. Some will offer sites with electricity and water. Others wills allow you to park your trailer in normal rustic camping. Both have their perks. As far as locking...its a nice option, but I have never once had any problems with people getting into my tent. (I may have had a few problems getting them out!? HA)
Last thought...have a kickstand pad with you so you dont wake up and find that your not the only one that sleeps on his side! Some of the ground out there will get soft after rain...and it will rain!
I think "camping' in the motorcycle trailer is a great idea. I would do some basic stuff to it to make it more comfortable.
- ceiling vent, with 12v exhaust fan. Run it from a 12v battery that you charge during the day with a solar charger.
- pop up awning, for a covered sitting, cooking, eating area, and can provide shelter for the bike in the evening
- some kind of screen for the door.
- consider getting a composting crapper...for those evening occurrences.
- awning attached to the rear or side where the door is located.
Forget all the crap about trailering your bike. Also, I don't get all the crap about the trailers being a menace in the black hills. We were there a week in 2014, and didn't see one trailer in the black hills rides. Most people come via I-40, get off at Sturgis and don't pull trailers in the black hills. Everybody enjoys Sturgis in their own way, and whatever you do to get there and what you stay in has no impact on anyone else.
Wow, the Trailer Queens are getting feisty! Obviously you think that there may be something wrong with trailering otherwise you wouldn't care what anyone thinks. It just looks silly having a motorcycle with saddlebags that is built for long distance riding sitting on a trailer going to a motorcycle rally. Why don't you see Goldwings or BMWs on trailers? They would be ridiculed for doing such a thing. Sure you have rain, sure your *** gets sore, sure you can get a sunburn, but it is all part of the experience. In the 70's they used to drop jap bikes from crains in Sturgis, and everyone would cheer. They should bring back the crain for these toy haulers and trailer.

Back in '94 I rode my Softail there, & picked up my wife at the airport. She spent the week there with me, camping at Glencoe, flew home & I rode home.
Worked out great for her, she didn't care what anyone thought
