Has anyone here attended Sturgis rally and towed their bike in a small enclosed trailer and once there, parked their bike outside the trailer and stayed inside their trailer at a campground ? Awaiting any info about this, thanks!!
RG, we did it about 14 years ago. 3 couples drove out in a 40' motor home from the East coast, we were the last ones to get involved in the trip so no room for us in the Inn. We rented I think an 18' enclosed trailer to carry three bikes, don't quote me on the length but it was pretty big. The wife and I had just bought a new bed and had not decided what to do with the old one when the trip fell in our laps. I strapped the mattress, box spring and frame to the side wall of the trailer before we loaded the bikes. When we arrived at the campground in Sturgis (Lonestar under Bear Butte) we unloaded the bikes and we made ourselves a "bedroom" in the trailer. The other couple that stayed in the motor home decided we made the better choice as they had to break down their bed every morning as it was the couch in the living room. Real PITA for them all week setting it up every night and limited privacy. We had all the privacy we needed plus a full size bed not a pull out. One or two nights a little A/C would have been nice, but we had also brought a fan so we were OK. We ran power from the motor home to the trailer, we had lights as well. Everyone was using the campground showers and toilet because it was a dry hookup, just electricity so again we had the same amenities.
Thanks, I kind of been thinking about the trailer thing just the other day. I have a small 6x12 bike trailer, enclosed that can be locked from the inside and I would put the padlock on the ramp door. Just pull the pins on the condor chock, set up a cot or 2 and be good. Being at a campground with all the amenities, I figure just take a cooler for drinks and snacks and it would be a low cost adventure, plus I could take more clothing along and the wife if she so chooses to go, still thinking about it, but haven't really committed just yet.
Please don't trailer your bike to sturgis during the rally, everyone will hate you! Your motorcycle should only be on a trailer when it is broken. If you still insist on putting your running bike on a trailer, you can bring it to sturgis 51 other weeks of the year. Please don't be a trailer queen!

Ain't much sense in locking yourself in ... thousands stay in tents and they didn't have locks the last time I looked. If taking the trailer makes the trip possible, do it. Who cares what others think. I don't own a trailer ( except the one I drag behind my scooter ) and never thought to criticize someone who does.
Some camp grounds will not let you park a truck and trailer in tent area would make you pay higher fee for camper slot.
If you do it figure a way to hang a screen on the door so you can get some air flow at night. if it is a warm summer it can be 100 plus during the day
I wouldn't take seriously anyone who would criticize you for trailering your bike anywhere. I hope you enjoy your vacation.
Why are you being critical of me for asking someone to not be a Trailer Queen? Unless you are very old (a 90 year old woman rode her motorcycle from New Jersey last year), have a disability (hemmroids don't count), or are a vendor you should ride your motorcycle to a motorcycle rally. Trailering clogs up roads and causes safety issues throughout the area. There are 51 other weeks in the year to visit the black hills, why try ruining the experience for other riders? It is not that hard to ride and you will appreciate the experience much more. If you're wife is not into riding long distances, buy her a ticket and pick her up at the airport when you arrive. Trust me, you will have a much better experience riding.
