Since you have rode the MDH before you might want to check for construction. I was there a few weeks ago and had to ride through one lane road closures that lasted for up to a half hour. Of course afterwards all the vehicles were then bunched up together until the next closure. With that said like you I've done it a number of times before and all in all in was still a good ride.
Thanks for the heads up Eric. I was hoping they had finished work on the MDH. Last year when we rode it we had an almost 2 hour wait and like you said everyone was bunched up. We were shut down right outside of Silverton. It was still worth the ride but we may skip it this year.
Denver is a mess unless you can ride off peak time if it exist, morning rush weekdays lunch hr evening rush is terrible to deal with IMHO.
It's not just Denver - I25 N&S will jam up pretty good between south Castle Rock and Monument Hill to the south. 25 reduces from 3 lanes to 2, and it's up hill. Combined with RVs, campers, and semis, it's congested regularly. Avoid peak times if you can.
My advice, after having ridden pretty much the whole state - the SW area is truly beautiful. The San Juan range, MDH (sans construction), and other close areas are gorgeous. Plus, traffic is usually much thinner there as it's well off the I70 corridor and the Front Range.
Colorado is great scenery - you won't be disappointed.
Longrider, devil, crtman. I'll be at the rally that weekend and riding around. It looks like the music will be decent and the Indian motorcycle demo fleet will be there. Feel free to pm me for a phone number in case you want meet up.
