Heading to the Black Hills South Dakota July 5th through the 8th with a buddy of mine. I will be riding my Lo and my buddy well he has a bike that we won't talk about here. My main question is besides the Spearfish Canyon, Needles Highway and a cruise out to Devils Tower, What are some other nice and scenic rides? We rented a Cabin around Deadwood so that will be our starting point each day. Also any suggestions on where to eat besides the Sugar Shack its already on my list. Thanks in advance.
Iron Mountain Rd. is a must, even if you've done it. Although considered the most dangerous road, Old Hill City Rd. is good as well. And Sheridan lake Rd. from Rapid out is underrated.
The Alpine Inn in Hill City has a great Filet for real cheap.
Since you're planning on going to the Devil's Tower, I've always enjoyed the ride through Aladdin (be sure to stop in at the General Store) and on to Hulett, WY to the Tower then back through Sundance, WY, down RT 585 (south) then north on RT 85 towards Lead and Deadwood.
This is a nice all day ride (including the Tower) with a bar (or more) in every little town so pace your drinking.
Another issue up that way is wildlife, especially deer. I've seen several bike/deer collisions even mid-day, but more earlier in the morning and later in the evening.
The ride to Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorials also makes for a nice day ride.
Anyway, right next to the Shack is the best Pizza in the Hills (Cousin's Pizza), some folks from Philly bought it, promptly ended the stupid war the old owner was running against the Shack, now there is two killer joints within stumbling distance of each-other. Everything is scratch-made.
