The GI stoves I remember all used white gas as fuel. That's one of the reasons I am thinking about this Solo stove. http://www.lightweightmotorcyclecamp...b00llh515a.htm There's no need to carry fuel that may spill or worrying about running out. I've never had any trouble finding enough small wood and twigs to cook with around the campsites.

As long as you can buy the gas, JetBoil - no contest. I've used everything from hexamine blocks to metholated spirit in a Trangia by way of all sorts of liquid fuel and gas stoves, and the JetBoil is the quickest and most convenient I've used. It boils so quick that you use less gas than on others. Only reasons to use liquid or solid fuel are availability, very high altitude or very low temperature.

When I bought it years ago, the outfit I bought it from called it a G.I. stove, and it looked pretty much like this:

It takes solid fuel pellets, so I didn't have to worry about liquid fuel.
