It was a few years back when returning from Canada onto Interstate 15 I turned onto US route 2 which crosses the US not far below Canada.

I did not know about the oil boom in N. Dakota. When I got there most of the road was torn up to make it four lane. The path along side it was just gravel and ground up asphalt from the old road.

I was on a 10 Ultra Classic. Many miles latter at Williston, N.D I finally turned south to go to Spearfish on a paved road. I think 85. My arms were very weary from all the fighting I had to do to keep the bike going forwards.

Their curves were bad *** and when they said 10 & 15 mph you'd better follow the recommendations as it was straight down like hundreds of feet.
Really spooky in the dark and in a rain storm.
Watch yo ***.

I loved this road. Fortunately I had good weather for it. We took it from Three way to St Johns and had a blast. I plan on doing it again next year coming back from our 50 CC.

So far no nightmare roads for me, but there is always next year.

OK, try riding in southeast Ohio (south of I-70 down to Athens) staying within maybe 50 miles of the Ohio river. The roads in that area are twisty, twisty, well maintained, and for the most part lightly traveled.

Worst road I've ever taken was the road up to Mt. Evans in Colorado this past summer. They told us that mile 9 was bad and to slow down. They should have closed that road and repaired it.

Some roads in Louisiana are terrible too. Probably won't go back there either.

Some good and bad ones. SR165 on the RI/CT border is usually a very nice ride. Well, usually...first time I rode it, not so much...because about 3 miles of it had been dug up and was packed dirt! (And, of course, I had JUST washed the bike!) That rather sucked!

The Stairs to Nowhere in NH is a nice ride...except the last couple miles are not paved! Not at all technical, pretty easy...but absolutely no warning about it.

95 from New London to the NY state line is a traffic-choked hell. The White Cross and Merritt Parkways are busy, but much nicer, and at least you aren't dancing with Kenworths.

Speaking of which: I-78 in Jersey! A few years ago, I rode the Blue Ridge Parkway...on the way down, I went via Philly, because I wanted to see the USS Olympia. Coming out of Philly, I wound up on I-78. YOWZA! If every semi in the northeast is not on that highway, most seem to be! Nothing like running 70MPH and having a ratty FL Columbia go roaring by at 85 pulling a container! No, never doing THAT again!

Also, after crossing the Tappan Zee Bridge in a thunderstorm, I will be quite happy if I never repeat that experience.

That thing is like 6-7 lanes wide, more semis tying to make time than cars let alone Bikes. Not to mention the urban blight scenery all around. If you can avoid it do.
And I get to drive it in March. Yee f-ing ha.

In my opinion there is no bad road just a challenging one. One I remember well was Interstate 10 riding across Mobile Bay in the middle of a water spout on out way to the HOG posse ride.

Road this last summer from Alpine to Morenci. What a blast. No traffic and lots of twisties. Had a deer hop off a cliff into the road then right off the other side. I swear it was a sheer drop. LOL......Would ride it again anytime.

Come west young man we'll dissuade you of that notion, get off the super slabs and what they call a road in some places is questionable.
