Planning on riding Utah this summer and planning various excursions into the canyons and hollows. Touring around Cedar City. Anyway, had planned several trips and to make sure the planner routed me were I wanted to go used only locations..... Got my desired routes planned and saved the trip. Did a screen shot to show the route. Could only print the complete directions if my browser was Firefox but no big deal. Saved my trips into a GPX file and stored the ride for later retrieval under my ride planner ID. Now I log into ride planner several days later and some of my rides are all together different. The locations are the same but the route has changed. It has me still hitting all the locations but instead of traveling the route I had set up now it has me backtracking....WTF..... If I load the GPX file into my navigator is it going to take me on the desired route of try to send me on this new route ???? Anyone have any similar experience and what did you do about it.
ive been using Ride Planner for about 5 years now. I have noticed you need to add quite a few way point to keep it on track. Also after you down load the file if your GPS has set to.... for ex. avoid highways interstates it will try to re route you after the download on the gps. so buy using more way point it forces the route more often to go where you want it. I also double check it after the download hope this helps jeff
This may not help, but I'll throw it out there ........ I was NOT using HD Ride Planner - I was using a different routing app ......... so YMMV
I created a route in the summer, than went to look at it in the winter/spring, and since the routing app was based on Google maps, which knew about winter/snow road closures, it then displayed a VERY different route. I think road closures for repair are also taken into account with the app I use.
I have NO idea if this applies in your case, but thought I'd mention it.
I use Garmin Basecamp and do not have these issues. It takes time to learn how ones GPS processes files with certain settings on (like shortest route, fastest time etc). The GPS could reroute a custom route based upon that criteria if not careful.
I've been planning trips most winters since I began riding ten years ago. I usually use google as it's quicker, but sometimes switch to Harley-Davidson ride planner as it can easily turn in POIs (gas mostly) to look for stops in remote areas. I couple that with a Google Sheets (like MS Excel but on the cloud). I enter start times and end times. Approximate fuel stops and some spots to see. This keeps the info accessible when in a data capable area or when you run offline maps and have a copy of the sheet on your device.
You can save the maps as a link and have them in your sheet.
Really this type of organization is really required for an IBA - but if you're doing a multi day it can keep you in track. Also I have a 'Notes' column and enter pertinent stuff like highway XYZ or stop at this roadside attraction.
Since I'm me- I also have a sheet that I can track my fuel economy. Not required but it is nice to see how close I get to the claimed 45+ mpg some state.
Lastly it allows me to plan time off on yet another separate sheet.
Bear in mind it's like a seven month winter in northern Alberta -- so I'm justified in my mind being this retarded. I don't want to get into snowmobiles. I'd rather move and work at Walmart.... ha ha.

You're a brave soul riding the parks there during the summer! Way to hot for this old man..
Dears,
This weekend we got a new Ride Planner with maps generated by "here" platform. After saving a ride as .gpx file, it is not possible to upload it into the BoomBox Radio of my Ultra 2016. I guess the road map platform is not the same so it is not possible to upload it anymore. Someone knows what to do to get it work?

Yeah, I use “inRoute”, but it’s a PITA if you are planning for a future trip, and a road you want to take is currently closed. You would think it would just give you a warning, but, too many people have followed navigation onto close roads, and now the lawyers are in charge.
A gpx file from Harley Ride Planner doesn't save the 'routes' and so your routing gets recalculated when you load it into a Garmin gps.
I use the Harley Dealership GPX that is posted in Road Trips then use Google Maps to create a route that misses the interstates and tolls. Then I create a route in BaseCamp including the HD Dealerships and cities/towns as a general guide (I often collect shot glasses if I haven't been there before). Then I adjust the route based upon what Google Maps suggested using waypoints and dropping the dealers that I don't need but keep them in the route list in case I need to stop and test my Extended Warranty Plan (change the waypoint symbol to a blue dot so they are smaller than the flags).
