I understand now about the rental locations. I would vote for Seaside which essentially Monterey. The routes I suggested are what I call " one tankers" meanjng about 200 mile loops with good scenery and less traffic. Going up to SF is a long haul with lots of cars. Still, if yiu arw going to go there, I-280 is a scenic freeway and CA35/ Skyline parallels it nearly the entire way. It is a fun old 2 lane road, at least from San Mateo south through the hills. As suggested, if you do Skyline, stop in at Alice's in Sky Londa.

DBlass, +1 about Alice's. We visited a buddy in Emerald Hills and hit Alice's on the way to Half Moon Bay (which is also beautiful).

Great biker bar.. (for California anyway).
