I've been looking for a tent too and what I have gravitated towards are back packing tents, which are designed to fold up compactly and weight very little. The problem is... as soon as you go down that road, you are looking at hundreds of dollars for a tent. Even the budget tents can be pretty expensive...
The problem is, it is not just a tent. It is a mattress, and sleeping bag too and just like tents, anything designed for backpacking is ridiculously expensive (but they pack very compactly, which is nice). I get a few feet down that road and I turn around and head back. It is not that much more expensive to stay in a cheap hotel and you get: air conditioning, a shower, a flush toilet, and a comfy bed. A lot of times, there are snacks in the lobby. Tough to beat.
I am also a backpacker so I am fortunate enough to have some very packable backpacking tents (and pads and sleeping bags). If interested I can point you to some.
I like The North Face tents. I have a 3 season North Face tent that has kept me dry on very rainy nights. It’s has 3 poles and is set up quickly. You get what you pay for.
I use the marmot 2p. Had it two years now. Living in Colorado, I do a lot of camping and have learned having a good tent that is dome shaped with aluminum poles is what you want. Ive never had this tent leak or blow away. Made it through two Sturgis hail/wind storms as well.
See pic pic below from my 5000 mile trip after Sturgis this year. FYI. More pics to come on that soon.
